How much does a mechatronics technician earn?

Mechatronics technicians combine mechanics, electrics and control technology: they assemble, commission and maintain complex systems in mechanical engineering, automation, vehicle suppliers or plant engineering. They diagnose faults across disciplines and keep machines and production lines running. Gross pay depends on region, collective agreements, company size, shift allowances and specialisation. As a guide, qualified mechatronics technicians in Germany in 2026 often earn about €3,350–€4,000 gross per month; during apprenticeship around €1,060–€1,400 is typical.

Guide figures as of 2026. The apprenticeship column refers to the dual training as Mechatroniker/-in; qualified means practising mechatronics technicians. Actual pay depends on collective agreements (e.g. metal and electrical industry), shift allowances, employer, region, extra qualifications and experience and is not a guarantee.

Job and everyday work

A mechatronics technician keeps automated systems productive: mechanical assemblies, sensors, drives and controllers are installed, tested and maintained. Everyday work includes drawings and circuit diagrams, measuring and PLC diagnostics, coordinating with production and quality – often under deadline pressure with high standards of precision and safety.

  • Inspect, assemble, commission and maintain mechanical, electrical and control systems.
  • Diagnose faults – often with meters, diagnostic software and circuit diagrams – and replace parts or modules.
  • Read and apply drawings, electrical and pneumatic diagrams and PLC programs; document test results.
  • Coordinate with design, production, quality assurance and customers; prepare materials, tools and spare parts.
  • Follow occupational safety and operating instructions – from PPE and lockout/tagout to machine guarding.
  • Work through maintenance plans, suggest improvements and, where needed, supervise apprentices.
